I’ve volunteered for an amazing challenge in May! I’ve been accepted to take part in Rotary’s Malin to Mizen Cycle Challenge to cycle 427 Kilometres from Malin Head, Ireland’s most northerly point, to Mizen Head in the south. It will take all my resources of energy and stamina, but I am inspired to do this to help support a charity close to my heart, Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Marie Curie provides care to terminally ill patients in their own homes or in hospices, while offering support to their families. With 2,000 nurses, last year they worked for 1,300,000 hours caring for terminally ill patients, including half of all cancer patients who die at home. This level of care is costly though – in order to carry on their work, Marie Curie have to raise £10,000 every hour of every day, so any help that we can give is essential.
As such, another part of the challenge – apart from the lengthy training! – begins long before I go to Ireland in May. By taking part in the Bike Ride, I have committed myself to raising at least £1,700 in sponsorship, but my personal target is £3,000. I need your help to achieve this.
To help meet that target, we’ll be having a night at the races at the Eagle Lodge on 21st March. Tickets are just £10 and you could have a great night and raise money for a good cause all at once. If you’re interested in coming along, give Sam at the office a call on 0141 248 7015.
I appreciate many of you are asked regularly to make donations to charity but there are many ways you can help me reach my target. Any tombola, raffle or auctions prizes would also be much appreciated.
