Self-Employed Income Support Scheme – 5 ^th Grant

HM Revenue & Customs will shortly be contacting those who they feel could be eligible for the 5 ^th SEISS grant.

To be eligible to claim, your business profit should be impacted between May and September 2021 as a result of the pandemic. There are several other conditions that must be met.

There are now also restrictions on the amount you can receive. This will be based on your turnover and you’ll be asked to supply figures to HMRC in order to make a claim. In certain circumstances only 30% of profits may be claimed, rather than the usual 80%.

Bounce Back Loan

The first Bounce Back Loan (BBL) of up to £50,000 was provided in May 2020, with no repayments needed to be made for the first 12 months from taking out the loan. The first BBL repayments will start on 1 ^st June 2021.

If your business took out a BBL, you will need to look at when your 12 month repayment holiday period will be coming to an end and if your business is in a position to meet these loan requirements.

Fraudulent Government Scam Email

Scam email regarding Self-Employed Income Support (SEISS)

We would like to you make you aware of a Government scam email regarding the 4 ^th Self-Employed Income Support (SEISS) which has been circulating recently.

It has an official looking Gov.uk logo with a convincing typeface and format, with the email subject line ‘HMRC SEISS Tax Refund Notification’. It claims the SEISS grant is now open and points you to sign into the ‘HMRC Online Services’. It instructs you to sign in and ‘follow steps 1 to 3 to have your tax refund credit to your bank account’. Please note the SEISS grant is not a tax refund. You are then advised to have your ID ready to submit an application and are encouraged to click on a HMRC online services self-assessment hyperlink. The email then states that ‘for security reason we will record (IP Address, Time and Date) Deliberate Wrong input or flooding will be criminally pursued’. Please note the grammatical errors in the fraudsters’ last statement.

A number of people have already been duped by this email scam so if you have a doubt, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to check the authenticity of the email.
